Ideally a line set at 6 inches to catch their ankles and 3 feet to catch their chest freaks them out and keeps them from being able to get around it. Height or width is probably the most important factor with deer fences especially if high deer pressure. Place the fence posts at 15 to 20 foot intervals around the perimeter of your orchard garden or flower beds. The second year i installed the fishing line fence with raging success absolutely no deer in my garden and everything including way too many weeds grew in abundance.
